Saint Bonaventure described what happened the night St. Francis made the first nativity scenes: “The brethren were summoned, the people ran together, the forest resounded with their voices, and that venerable night was made glorious by many and brilliant lights and sonorous psalms of praise. Then he preached to the people about the nativity of the poor King.”
This describes our own Nativity experience in the “Christmas Room” of our seminary here in Cheshire where we have a representation of Our Lord’s birth. We gather most days of the Christmas octave around the Nativity scene and sing traditional Christmas Carols in praise of our “poor King.”
This year the room was put together by a group of brothers in their humanities studies. Weeks of hard work left a beautiful scene for the contemplation of the Christmas mysteries for all of us and for the many visitors who come to adore the newborn Lord.
