PART TIME FACULTY MEMBER – Professor in HISTORY OR ART The Legion of Christ College of Humanities in Cheshire, CT is currently accepting applications from qualified individuals for the following positions in our B.A. Humanities program:
History Professor (part time)
Art History Professor (part time)
As a member of our faculty, the individual will participate in the formation of Roman Catholic seminarians preparing for the priesthood.
The History Professor will teach the following 3-credit courses (subject to change):
H 335 World History I
H 336 World History II
H 437 World History III
H 438 World History IV
Each course includes two lectures and a weekly seminar session. These courses should emphasize the philosophical and cultural underpinnings of historical events and periods.
Professors develop course material and work together with the professors of other subjects to improve the integrated nature of the program.
The Art History Professor will teach the following 3-credit courses (subject to change):
H 315 Art and Music History and Theory I
H 316 Art and Music History and Theory II
H 417 Art and Music History and Theory III
H 418 Art and Music History and Theory IV
The professor would only need to teach Art History since the music portion of the course is already covered. Thus the teaching load would be 2 credits per course, which includes one lecture and one seminar.
Course content should cover Western art from antiquity to the present with a particular focus on religious art, including the discussion of beauty and aesthetics from a Catholic perspective. There will also be a guided monthly visit to one of the museums in the New England area.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Required skills
Doctoral or Master's Degree in History or Art respectively
Pedagogical skill
Familiarity with Western history and philosophy from antiquity to the present or familiarity with Western art from antiquity to the present and the theory of aesthetics
Desire to educate in a Catholic environment and direct classes not only from a scholarly but also Christian perspective, aiming at the objective of the formation of future priests and missionaries.
Ability to cooperate in a team with other faculty to further advance and improve the program
It is a bona fide requirement for this position to adhere to the doctrines and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, the Pope and the Bishops in communion with him.
