On the 14
th of February, the second year humanities students ventured to the heart of New York City to visit one of the greatest art collections in the United States, the Frick Museum. The museum along 5
th Avenue is in the home of 19
th century business tycoon, Henry Clay Frick.
The small museum creates a warm atmosphere that allows you to spend a long time with each piece of art. It consists of portraits and landscapes from some of the most renowned artists like Rembrandt, Turner, Constable and Holbein.
In our art classes we have been studying all of these artists, their works, styles and techniques, but the experience of seeing them up close and personal does not compare. It gave us a deeper appreciation for their utter mastery in transmitting such realistic depictions as well as profound depth in their art.
Following our visit we set off for Bronxville, NY where we were graciously hosted by the Cummings family, who gave us warm hospitality and a delicious meal.
