The second-year humanists visited Boston, Massachusetts, for our monthly cultural visit. The first of three places we visited was the Boston Public Library, where we admired murals painted by the artist John Singer Sargent. At around 11:30 we found ourselves in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The museum is the mansion of the late Isabella Stewart Gardner, an art collector and patron of the arts. The museum features mostly Renaissance art and a stunning courtyard in the center.
After a quick lunch during which some of the brothers practiced catching squirrels or throwing Frisbees, we visited the Museum of Fine Arts. There we saw the work of many famous artists including Monet, Renoir, Cole, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Goya, Titian, Botticelli, Sargent, Pollock, and many more. Following the museum visit we enjoyed some Chicago deep dish pizza thanks to the generosity of the aunt and uncle of one of the brothers. Filled with pizza and a deeper appreciation for art, we made the two-hour journey back to Connecticut.
